Ben Margolius

Hi I’m Ben Margolius, a Seattle-based Full Stack developer working primarily with React, Next.js and Typescript.

I’m passionate about creating beautiful solutions that solve real problems.
I don’t just live inside my Text Editor - I go outside and talk to users.
I think outside-the-box to solve user problems, even if that solution doesn’t involve a single line of code.
Technologies I enjoy working with:
  • Typescript
  • TailwindCSS
  • Prisma/Drizzle
  • tRPC
  • React Query
  • Supermaven
  • SaaS: Vercel, Upstash, Supabase, Clerk, Sentry, Linear
  • Next.js

Experience

Castle Design Build - Full Stack Developer - 2024

  • Proposed and led the transition from a dated stack to a full application rewrite using T3/NextJS
  • Orchestrated a comprehensive deployment strategy using Vercel, Supabase, AWS Lambda, and GitHub Actions
  • Collaborated directly and often with end-users to gather feedback, ensuring enhancements aligned closely with user needs and expectations
  • Leveraged GPT-4o to create an AI chatbot, incorporating project context and real-time data such as project estimates and customer correspondence.

Santé (YC S23) - Software Engineer - 2023

  • Served as a pre demo-day engineer at Santé, utilizing the T3 stack (NextJS, TS, tRPC, Tailwind, Prisma, Vercel) to build a scalable and robust platform for liquor store POS systems
  • Implemented real-time inventory management, enabling liquor stores to track stock levels accurately and make informed purchasing decisions
  • Utilized OCR and GPT 4 to enable users to upload product invoices, and automatically generate corresponding product inventory in the application backend

A&A Language Services - Software Engineer - 2021 - 2022

  • Developed a robust and scalable back-end portal using React, ensuring seamless appointment management and contractor tracking
  • Designed and implemented RESTful APIs, leveraging Node.js and Express, to securely handle user authentication, appointment scheduling, and contractor management, ensuring data integrity and system reliability
  • Streamlined vendor billing processes by integrating automated billing systems within the platform, reducing manual data entry errors, and improving payment accuracy and timeliness

To wrap things up, a quote I think about often when working on solutions:

“Be guided by beauty. I really mean that. Pretty much everything I’ve done has had an aesthetic component, at least to me. Now you might think ‘well, building a company that’s trading bonds, what’s so aesthetic about that?’ But, what’s aesthetic about it is doing it right. Getting the right kind of people, and approaching the problem, and doing it right […] it’s a beautiful thing to do something right.” - Jim Simons
